More than once, Carl Reiner has had friends say, "Hey, Reiner, you ought to write those things down." And at eighty, he finally has. In this funny and engaging memoir, one of the best raconteurs on the planet recalls his life in show business in short comic takes. Reiner tells of how, after answering an ad for free acting classes on his brother Charlie's advice, he forsakes a budding career as a machinist for an acting career. In "Sidney Bechet and His Jazz Band Meet Franz Kafka," he captivates the legendary jazz man and his band with an unusual reading of The Metamorphosis , during a thunderstorm at a Catskills resort in 1942. Reiner also recalls the highlights of the succeeding decades: his first sweaty audition, impersonating a dog impersonating movie stars; his forays into the theater; his work on Your Show of Shows and The Dick Van Dyke Show during TV's golden days; and his long friendship and collaboration with Mel Brooks which gave birth to the Two Thousand Year Old Man. In "A Recipe to Remember," he recites a recipe for cream cheese cookies to a star-studded audience that includes Paul Newman, Leonard Bernstein, and Barbra Streisand. In "The Gourmet Eating Club," he gives an insider's take on the now-legendary group that included Mario Puzo, Joseph Heller, Zero Mostel, and other luminaries. Mary Tyler Moore, Sid Caesar, Mickey Rooney, Johnny Carson, Cary Grant, Dinah Shore, Ann Bancroft, Jean Renoir – the list goes on and on – also appear in what Reiner calls the "literary variety show" that captures the highs and lows of his extraordinary life. Through it all, Reiner displays the wit and warmth that have made him one of the most beloved figures in the entertainment business. This charming memoir will delight anyone who wants a behind-the-scenes look at five decades of Hollywood and television history.

'Funny, despite bloody everything' - Charlie Brooker An indispensable handbook to see the nation through lockdown, breakdown and meltdown. As Britain enters a period of tremendous upheaval, your government has requested that everyone immediately undertake a series of life-style changes that may test the nation's resolve. Most of it is simple common-sense, but common-sense may be new to you, especially if you are young, wistful or an imbecile. Indeed, it should be noted that much of what is to come in the weeks and months (and months) ahead will be new to us all. But let us remember that, not so long ago, the same was true of pesto. We must not lose heart. With stoicism, courage and a substantial supply of alcoholic fortification, we will pull through this together and emerge from it a stronger (or weaker but more experienced) nation. Sir Clement Apricot-Wilson, Permanent Secretary The Department of Unforeseen Circumstances

Bill Watterson - There's Treasure Everywhere artwork There's Treasure Everywhere
Bill Watterson
Genre: Humour
Price: $10.99
Publish Date: March 01, 1996
Publisher: Andrews McMeel Publishing
Seller: Andrews McMeel Publishing

In the world that Calvin and his tiger Hobbes share, treasures can be found in the most unlikely places, from the outer regions where Spaceman Spiff travels to the rocks in the backyard--this curious duo roams their world in search of fortunes (and misfortunes!) to be experienced. Whether Calvin and Hobbes are blasting off on another interplanetary adventure or approaching warp speed on a downhill wagon ride, their capers consistently charm and refresh their readers' days. On his own, Calvin is prey to the insidious killer bicycle, is the arbiter of the Dad poll, is the creator of a legion of snowmen who provide an incisive social commentary, and Hobbes is always there as the perfect companion. Watterson's talent is evidenced by the range of thought-provoking emotions the strip encompasses in addition to the laughs it induces: the loyalty and friendship between Calvin and Hobbes , the challenge of being a patient parent, and the sardonic viewpoint of a cynical six-year-old ("I'm a 21st-century kid trapped in a 19th-century family," laments Calvin) combine to make this one of the best-loved strips in cartoon history.

Now they’ve written the most essential guide to life of this century*, in which all the important questions are asked: How do I talk to my kids about drugs if I do them, too? What are the ethics of ghosting in a relationship? How do I bet on sports? How should I behave in jail? How much is too much to spend on sneakers? Is porn really that bad for me?   As they put it: “We want to share all we’ve learned, after years in the Bronx streets, with you: the people. So with a lifetime spent building up a plethora of information from trials and tribulations and a handful of misdemeanors, we decided to write this book—a sequel to the Bible, or maybe to  The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, depending on how big a nerd you are. Laura Clery
Genre: Humour
Price: $17.99
Publish Date: September 24, 2019

From YouTube star and Facebook Video sensation Laura Clery comes a collection of comedic essays in the vein of We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby and You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein. Laura Clery makes a living by sharing inappropriate comedy sketches with millions of strangers on the Internet. She writes songs about her anatomy, talks trash about her one-eyed rescue pug, and sexually harasses her husband, Stephen. And it pays the bills! Now, in her first-ever book, Laura recounts how she went from being a dangerously impulsive, broke, unemployable, suicidal, cocaine-addicted narcissist, crippled by fear and hopping from one toxic romance to the next…to a more-happy-than-not, somewhat rational, meditating, vegan yogi with good credit, a great marriage, a fantastic career, and four unfortunate-looking rescue animals. Still, above all, Laura remains an amazingly talented, adorable, and vulnerable, self-described… Idiot . With her signature brand of offbeat, no-holds-barred humor, Idiot introduces you to a wildly original—and undeniably relatable—new voice.

Simon Doonan - Eccentric Glamour artwork Eccentric Glamour
Creating an Insanely More Fabulous You
Simon Doonan
Genre: Humour
Price: $17.99
Publish Date: April 08, 2008
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Seller: Simon & Schuster Canada

Glamorous eccentrics are irresistible people. They are irreverent, occasionally impertinent, a tad mysterious, charming, often self-invented, good at applying eyeliner, and above all nonconformist. They are a fabulous confection of style, self-empowerment, and black patent sling backs. Everyone wants to be one, but how? Ubiquitous style guru Simon Doonan has the answer. By no means a typical how-to manual, Eccentric Glamour is a mixture of cultural commentary and personal disclosure, generously seasoned with gushings of wildly dictatorial, provocative, and reckless style advice. Through cautionary tales and inspirational examples, Doonan shows how to develop your own brand of eccentric glamour -- by magnifying everything that is already unique and idiosyncratic about you. In these comic essays, interspersed with one-on-one interviews with some of the world's most glamorous eccentrics (including Iman, Lucy Liu, Tilda Swinton, Malcolm Gladwell, and many more), Simon Doonan offers the women of America an alternative to the cheapness and tackiness that currently pass for personal style. Eccentric Glamour is intended as an antidote to the epidemic of slutty dressing and porno-chic that has taken over since the arrival of Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith (may she rest in peace). While the typical TV boobs 'n' Botox makeovers force every woman to look the same, the transformations this book strives to inspire are the very opposite. Dressing like a ho is not just bad taste but boring! In Simon Doonan's book, conformity is the only crime and dressing down the only faux pas. Eccentric Glamour is every woman's birthright. SO SAY NO TO HO! ...and yes to ECCENTRIC GLAMOUR!

Adam Carolla - I'm Your Emotional Support Animal artwork I'm Your Emotional Support Animal
Navigating Our All Woke, No Joke Culture
Adam Carolla
Genre: Humour
Price: $19.99
Publish Date: June 16, 2020
Publisher: Post Hill Press
Seller: Simon & Schuster Canada

Three-time  New York Times  bestseller Adam Carolla is back to take on social media, social justice warriors, and a society gone to s**t. As seen on Fox News's  Fox & Friends !  “As the revolution reaches its final, most humorless stage, there’s no better, braver, or more insightful observer than Adam Carolla. You may feel despondent about what’s happening right now. This book will remind you that you should also be amused.”—Tucker Carlson In  I’m Your Emotional Support Animal , Adam Carolla examines how our culture went careening off a cliff. We used to have one that created real warriors who fought world wars. Now it spawns social justice warriors who fight Twitter wars. He takes on those who are traumatized by Trump and “emotional support animal” owners who proclaim their victimhood at every airport. He stands up for the collateral damage of the #MeToo movement and for freedom of speech on “safe space” filled college campuses. Examining the calculated commercials churned out by Madison Avenue, like the ones about cars “made with love,” Carolla rants on ads designed to either bum us out or make us think the corporation is run by Mr. Rogers. Turning to social media, Adam takes down the “hashtag heroes” who signal their virtue daily from atop Twitter mountain. And in the era of the Roomba, performances by dead celebrity holograms, and meals-on-demand delivery services, he looks down the road at our not-so-bright future as a species. “Adam and I agree on absolutely  nothing  but he’s a sharp, smart, funny guy to disagree with. And there’s a human heart under all the gruffness, snark, and melted cheese.”—Patton Oswalt Frank, funny, and utterly unapologetic, this is not a book for those who need a trigger warning, but is THE book for everyone who wants to hit the snooze bar on the “woke” culture.

Ali Wong
Genre: Humour
Price: $16.99
Publish Date: October 15, 2019
Publisher: Random House Publishing Group

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Ali Wong’s heartfelt and hilarious letters to her daughters (the two she put to work while they were still in utero) cover everything they need to know in life, like the unpleasant details of dating, how to be a working mom in a male-dominated profession, and how she trapped their dad. “Knife-sharp . . . a genuine pleasure.”— The New York Times   NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY Time •  Variety  •  Chicago Tribune • Glamour • New York In her hit Netflix comedy special Baby Cobra , an eight-month pregnant Ali Wong resonated so strongly that she even became a popular Halloween costume. Wong told the world her remarkably unfiltered thoughts on marriage, sex, Asian culture, working women, and why you never see new mom comics on stage but you sure see plenty of new dads. The sharp insights and humor are even more personal in this completely original collection. She shares the wisdom she’s learned from a life in comedy and reveals stories from her life off stage, including the brutal single life in New York (i.e. the inevitable confrontation with erectile dysfunction), reconnecting with her roots (and drinking snake blood) in Vietnam, tales of being a wild child growing up in San Francisco, and parenting war stories. Though addressed to her daughters, Ali Wong’s letters are absurdly funny, surprisingly moving, and enlightening (and gross) for all. Praise for Dear Girls “Fierce, feminist, and packed with funny anecdotes.” — Entertainment Weekly “[Wong] spins a volume whose pages simultaneously shock and satisfy. . . . Dear Girls is not so much a real-talk handbook as it is a myth-puncturing manifesto.” —Vogue   “[A] refreshing, hilarious, and honest account of making a career in a male-dominated field, dating, being a mom, growing up, and so much more…Yes, this book is addressed to Wong’s daughters, but every reader will find nuggets of wisdom and inspiration and, most important, something to laugh at.” — Bustle

Carl Reiner - Enter Laughing artwork Enter Laughing
A Bio-Novel: 50th Anniversary Edition
Carl Reiner
Genre: Humour
Price: $9.99
Publish Date: February 01, 2009
Publisher: Phoenix Books Inc
Seller: Phoenix Books, Inc.

In his semi-autobiographical, laugh-out-loud novel, Carl Reiner details a young man’s frustrations as he works as a machinist’s helper and tries to break into show business. Along the bumpy path, the aspiring young actor tries to extricate himself from his overly protective parents—and his two girlfriends—and eventually lands an acting gig with a small theater troupe. Human, funny and relatable, Enter Laughing is a warm tale of a young man with love in his heart and greasepaint on his face that guarantees to have everyone exit laughing. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Carl Reiner has spent over half a century in show business working as an actor, director, producer, writer, novelist, recording artist and comedian. He began his acting career in Broadway musicals and in 1950 was cast in Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows, appearing on air in skits while also working alongside writers Mel Brooks and Neil Simon. In 1959 he developed and starred in the television pilot Head of the Family, based on his experience with Caesar shows, but the network didn't like Reiner in the lead role. In 1961, it was recast and retitled, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and became an iconic series, making stars of lead actors Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore.  After it ended its run in 1967, Reiner's first film feature was an adaptation of Joseph's Stein's play Enter Laughing, which in turn was based on Reiner's semi-autobiographical 1958 novel of the same name.  He then directed the 1970 cult comedy Where's Poppa? starring George Segal and Oh, God! starring George Burns. Reiner played a large role in the early career of Steve Martin directing and co-writing four films for the comedian: The Jerk in 1979, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid in 1982, The Man with Two Brains in 1983, and All of Me in 1984. He has been awarded nine Emmy Awards, has been inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame, is one of only a handful of recipients of the prestigious Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and is an honoree of The Paley Center for Media. As a recording artist, he created the infamous 2000 Year Old Man character, and with Mel Brooks, recorded the Grammy Award winning album "2000 Years with Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks".  Carl Reiner, at age 21 married 29 year old Estelle Lebost.  Their marriage lasted 64 years until Estelle's death at age 94 in 2008. Estelle is probably best remembered for her one line — "I'll have what she's having" — in the deli scene in their son Rob's 1989 hit, When Harry Met Sally.  Their three children include actor-turned-director, Rob Reiner; poet, playwright and author Sylvia Anne Reiner; and painter, actor, and director Lucas Reiner.

Let's find out! - Some Egyptian rulers dyed their hair red to assert their power (looking at you, Cleopatra) - And redheads need more anesthesia at the dentist, because they're not going down without a fight

#1  NEW YORK TIMES  BESTSELLER • From the author of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and creator of The Mindy Project and Never Have I Ever comes a hilarious collection of essays  about her ongoing journey to find contentment and excitement in her adult life. “This is Kaling at the height of her power.”— USA Today In Why Not Me?, Kaling shares insightful, deeply personal stories about falling in love at work, seeking new friendships in lonely places, attempting to be the first person in history to lose weight without any behavior modification whatsoever, and believing that you have a place in Hollywood when you’re constantly reminded that no one looks like you.   In “How to Look Spectacular: A Starlet’s Confessions,” Kaling gives her tongue-in-cheek secrets for surefire on-camera beauty, (“Your natural hair color may be appropriate for your skin tone, but this isn’t the land of appropriate– this is Hollywood, baby . Out here, a dark-skinned woman’s traditional hair color is honey blonde.”) “Player” tells the story of Kaling being seduced and dumped by a female friend in L.A. (“I had been replaced by a younger model. And now they had matching bangs.”) In “Unlikely Leading Lady,” she muses on America’s fixation with the weight of actresses, (“Most women we see onscreen are either so thin that they’re walking clavicles or so huge that their only scenes involve them breaking furniture.”) And in “Soup Snakes,” Kaling spills some secrets on her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and close friend, B.J. Novak (“I will freely admit: my relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell.”)   Mindy turns the anxieties, the glamour, and the celebrations of her second coming-of-age into a laugh-out-loud funny collection of essays that anyone who’s ever been at a turning point in their life or career can relate to. And those who’ve never been at a turning point can skip to the parts where she talks about meeting Bradley Cooper.
