The bonds we share with our pets go beyond words and are often deeper than many of our human relationships. What is the nature of these close connections? And what if our influence on pets, both in life and especially through sickness and death, is far more powerful than we ever conceived? David Michie draws on ancient Buddhist wisdom, supported by contemporary science, to provide fascinating insights into animal consciousness. He proposes that the pets with whom we share our lives are not there by accident. Whether your animal companion has fur, feathers or fins, he offers a treasury of practical tools to enhance your relationship with them in everyday life, as well as during times of challenge. Written with humour and compassion, and including extraordinary true stories from around the world, Buddhism for Pet Lovers reveals how our animal companions may indeed be among our most precious partners. For in helping them, our own lives are incomparably enriched too. 'If you have ever deeply loved an animal, this is, without doubt, the book for you.' Gail Pope, BrightHaven 'Our pets offer us one of our greatest opportunities to add compassion to the world. This book helps direct us to a path toward the blossoming of that opportunity.' Carl Safina, author of Beyond Words, and What Animals Think and Feel |

During the last years of his life, Leo Tolstoy kept one book invariably on his desk, read and reread it to his family, and recommended it to all his friends: a compendium of wise thoughts gathered over the course of a decade from his wide-ranging readings in philosophy and religion, and from his own spiritual meditations. It was banned under the Communists, and only one volume, A Calendar of Wisdom , drawn largely from the writings of other famous thinkers, has been published before in English. Wise Thoughts For Every Day is the volume comprising Tolstoy’s own most essential ideas about spirituality and what it is to live a good life. Designed by Tolstoy to be a cycle of daily readings, this book offers thoughts and aphorisms for every day according to a succession of themes repeated each month—such as God, the soul, desire, our passions, humility, inequality, evil, truth, happiness, prayer, and the blessings of love. At once challenging, comforting, and inspiring, this is a spiritual treasure trove and a book of great human warmth. |

The Ground Is Moving The death of George Floyd at the hands of police in the summer of 2020 shocked the nation. As riots rocked American cities, Christians affirmed from the pulpit and in social media that “black lives matter” and that racial justice “is a gospel issue.” But what if there is more to the social justice movement than those Christians understand? Even worse: What if they’ve been duped into preaching ideas that actually oppose the Kingdom of God? In this powerful book, Voddie Baucham, a preacher, professor, and cultural apologist, explains the sinister worldview behind the social justice movement and Critical Race Theory—revealing how it already has infiltrated some seminaries, leading to internal denominational conflict, canceled careers, and lost livelihoods. Like a fault line, it threatens American culture in general—and the evangelical church in particular. Whether you’re a layperson who has woken up in a strange new world and wonders how to engage sensitively and effectively in the conversation on race or a pastor who is grappling with a polarized congregation, this book offers the clarity and understanding to either hold your ground or reclaim it. |

Prayer is a conversation with God that doesn't require fancy words or long passages of Scripture. Lay your prayers at the Father's feet and wait for his powerful response. He adores you, and he's listening to every word you say. Praise is a way for us to recognize all that he has done, who he is and express our gratitude to him. When we choose to focus on things we are grateful for, we become happier people. We begin to notice the little things that matter most. Life. Breath. Connection. Kindness. Beauty. As you reflect on these devotional entries, Scriptures, and prayers, refocus your perspective. Spend the beginning and end of your day with God, experiencing his goodness and being refreshed in his presence. From the time you wake up, until the time you fall into bed at night, make prayer and praise a habit. I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. Psalm 63:4 NLT |

"Through the characters of his play, Ron creatively invites us into the discussion and dialog so that our individual and community God-given healing may continue. How refreshing it is!" -Rev. Larry R. Welin, D.Min., LPCC "I began reading "Healing Traumatized Churches" critically. However, I quickly was drawn in to the book's message of hope and restoration. It should be no surprise that dominant culture narcissism has groomed rogue church leaders vying for power and control, destroying the fiber of many congregations. Their paths are littered with broken lives and lost faith, a silent epidemic. But the Good News is that Jesus is still the rightful owner and authority of the Body of Christ. With Ron's skills as a counselor, a heart of a pastor, and personal experience, the symptoms of church trauma and post trauma are exposed and healing plans identified. I read the entire book in one setting because, as a lay leader, I have experienced the effects of church trauma personally. Thanks to this book, I am beginning to experience closure." - Colonel Howard (Bud) May USAF, retired In praise of Healing Traumatized Churches: "Ron Wean gives us a wonderful window through which to look at trauma. The use of a dramatic script will surely allow others to look through the window and be astonished, as I was, that the window becomes a mirror. Rev. Wean provides a way into - and through - our own buried traumas." -Rev. Steven A. Ingram, D.Min., LPCC, Pastoral Counselor Pastor Ronald H. Wean is an ordained Lutheran pastor, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, a Certified Employee Assistance Professional, and a Substance Abuse Professional. His experience also includes parish pastor, mental health and substance abuse counselor, and Employee Assistance Counselor, Organizational Consultant, and Management Trainer for over 120 organizations in public and private, for profit and not for profit sectors. As a Pastoral Counselor at a Level 1 Trauma Center, he provides management and supervisory training for organizational development, team building, substance abuse prevention, and stress, conflict, and change management. He is honored to be a peer counselor trainer for First Responders. This unique and entertaining format offers a plan of healing for individuals and congregations through the power of The Cross. Each Scene is designed for personal meditation, or to be presented as a Sunday School or Book Study Series, or produced in its entirety as a play. |

What is consciousness? Is the mind a machine? What makes each of us a person? How do our bodies relate to our minds? In this deeply engaging exploration of what it means to be human, Rowan Williams addresses these frequently asked questions with lucid meditations that draw from findings in neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, and literature. Then he presses on to ask, Might faith be necessary to human flourishing? If so, why? And how can a traditional Christian practice—namely, silence—help us advance on the path to human maturity? The book ends with a brief but profound meditation on Christ’s ascension, inviting readers to consider how, through Jesus, our humanity in all its variety and vulnerability has been transfigured and taken into the heart of the divine life. Being Human  is a book that readers of all religious persuasions will find both challenging and highly rewarding. Questions at the end of each chapter encourage personal reflection or group discussion. |

He asks the very pertinent and philosophical question, ‘Is there or is there not, and if it is what is it?’ In short, this teaching is an extravaganza of spiritual knowledge and meditation that guides a student step by step to the glorious state of immortality, peace and bliss. |

In November 2013, Pastor Teddy Parker was found dead by his wife, Larrinecia Parker, in the driveway of their home with a "self-inflicted gunshot wound" hours after he had sent her and his two daughters ahead of him to church, then failed to show up. It was later revealed that he had been battling manic depression until his death. Since that time, over 30more pastors have committed suicide. These men and women of God face many challenges that could potentially affect every aspect of their lives. As the Body of Christ, most of us have not been cultured to automatically pray for our pastors. Pastors dont always ask for prayers and many members may not feel comfortable praying for them. We need a renewed culture where prayer for the pastor is encouraged and taught. Pastors need to have specific, anointed, and focused prayer going on for them regularly. Prayer Points for Pastors: A Tool for Pastors and Their Intercessors will help both pastors and their intercessors alike by offering prayer points that may be important to pray for or about for pastors. |

In the past year, you've probably heard a sermon or read a book about prayer or reading your Bible. You may have attended a small group study to learn how to better reach out to your community or how to improve your marriage. But when was the last time you heard a sermon about worship When did your Sunday School class study how we're supposed to worship If a sampling of one person from each church in your town was brought together in one room, do you think they might have a common definition of worship Worship Theory is an encouragement for all Christians to study Scripture, open discussion, and develop worship beyond how we have come to accept it. Examine worship's importance, its purpose, and its implications on our lives. Find out how the opinions and ideas you already have about worship affect not only your offering before God, but how they relate to your image of God and His working in your life. Then learn what it means to incorporate worship in to the whole of your life. |

#1 New York Times best-seller with more than 11 million copies sold and Amazon’s #17 best-selling book of all time. Heaven Is for Real was the best-selling non-fiction book of 2011 as reported by Nielsen’s Bookscan, and it was made in to a major motion picture by Sony in 2014. “Do you remember the hospital, Colton?” Sonja said. “Yes, mommy, I remember,” he said. “That’s where the angels sang to me.” When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren’t expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed—a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy’s trip to heaven and back. Colton, not yet four years old, told his parents he left his body during the surgery–and authenticated that claim by describing exactly what his parents were doing in another part of the hospital while he was being operated on. He talked of visiting heaven and relayed stories told to him by people he met there whom he had never met in life, sharing events that happened even before he was born. He also astonished his parents with descriptions and obscure details about heaven that matched the Bible exactly, though he had not yet learned to read. With disarming innocence and the plainspoken boldness of a child, Colton tells of meeting long-departed family members. He describes Jesus, the angels, how “really, really big” God is, and how much God loves us. Retold by his father, but using Colton’s uniquely simple words, Heaven Is for Real offers a glimpse of the world that awaits us, where as Colton says, “Nobody is old and nobody wears glasses.” Heaven Is for Real will forever change the way you think of eternity, offering the chance to see, and believe, like a child.  Continue the Burpos story in Heaven Changes Everything: The Rest of Our Story. Heaven Is for Real also is available in Spanish, El cielo es real. Bonus material in this special movie edition includes: Photos from the movie setUpdates from father, Todd, and son, Colton, on recent events including the making-of-the-movie experience“From the Set” Q&A’s with the movie’s filmmakers and actors |

The mystery of a newly translated “gospel”—filled with startling revelations and fascinating detail about the life and times of Jesus—is now revealed in this ground-breaking follow-up to the New York Times bestseller The Jesus Family Tomb. Waiting to be rediscovered in the British Library is an ancient manuscript from early Christianity, copied by an anonymous monk. This document is at least 1,450 years old, possibly dating to the first century, but it has never been properly translated or decoded. Until now. Working with an expert team of translators and digital imaging experts, acclaimed authors Simcha Jacobovici and Barrie Wilson provide the first-ever translation, from Syriac into English, of this unique document, which tells the inside story of Jesus’ social, family and political life. The Lost Gospel takes readers on an unparalleled historical adventure through this paradigm-shifting text. What the authors eventually discover is as astounding as it is unexpected: the confirmation of Jesus’ marriage to Mary the Magdalene; the names of their two children; a previously unknown plot on Jesus’ life more than a decade prior to the crucifixion; an attempt to abduct Mary and kill the children; the politics behind the crucifixion; and a religious movement that antedates that of Paul’s—the Church of Mary the Magdalene. Part detective story, part modern adventure, The Lost Gospel reveals secrets that have been hiding in plain sight for millennia. Jacobovici and Wilson’s surprising discovery and vigorous scholarly research position this ancient text alongside the Dead Sea Scrolls and Gnostic writings as a pillar of our evolving understanding of the historical Jesus. Translation of ancient text by Tony Burke |

A landmark new translation and edition Written almost two millennia ago, Patañjali's work focuses on how to attain the direct experience and realization of the purusa : the innermost individual self, or soul. As the classical treatise on the Hindu understanding of mind and consciousness and on the technique of meditation, it has exerted immense influence over the religious practices of Hinduism in India and, more recently, in the West. Edwin F. Bryant's translation is clear, direct, and exact. Each sutra is presented as Sanskrit text, transliteration, and precise English translation, and is followed by Bryant's authoritative commentary, which is grounded in the classical understanding of yoga and conveys the meaning and depth of the sutras in a user-friendly manner for a Western readership without compromising scholarly rigor or traditional authenticity. In addition, Bryant presents insights drawn from the primary traditional commentaries on the sutras written over the last millennium and a half. |

With a foreword by Billy Graham and now repackaged for a new generation of readers, The Master Plan of Evangelism will show every Christian how to minister to the people God brings into their lives. Instead of drawing on the latest popular fad or the newest selling technique, Robert E. Coleman looks to the Bible to find the answer to the question, What was Christ's strategy for evangelism? Through a thorough examination of the gospel accounts, Coleman points out unchanging, simple, yet profound biblical principles of how to emulate Christ to others. |

Read our customer guide Regarded throughout the English-speaking world as the standard English translation of the Holy Scriptures, the JPS TANAKH has been acclaimed by scholars, rabbis, lay leaders, Jews, and Christians alike. The JPS TANAKH is an entirely original translation of the Holy Scriptures into contemporary English, based on the Masoretic (the traditional Hebrew) text. It is the culmination of three decades of collaboration by academic scholars and rabbis, representing the three largest branches of organized Judaism in the United States. Not since the third century b.c.e., when 72 elders of the tribes of Israel created the Greek translation of Scriptures known as the Septuagint has such a broad-based committee of Jewish scholars produced a major Bible translation. In executing this monumental task, the translators made use of the entire range of biblical interpretation, ancient and modern, Jewish and non-Jewish. They drew upon the latest findings in linguistics and archaeology, as well as the work of early rabbinic and medieval commentators, grammarians, and philologians. The resulting text is a triumph of literary style and biblical scholarship, unsurpassed in accuracy and clarity. Ebook versions of this title may be purchased from most ebook vendors. |
