The official playscript of the original West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. The playscript for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally released as a 'special rehearsal edition' alongside the opening of Jack Thorne's play in London's West End in summer 2016. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, the play opened to rapturous reviews from theatregoers and critics alike, while the official playscript became an immediate global bestseller. This definitive and final playscript updates the 'special rehearsal edition' with the conclusive and final dialogue from the play, which has subtly changed since its rehearsals, as well as a conversation piece between director John Tiffany and writer Jack Thorne, who share stories and insights about reading playscripts. This edition also includes useful background information including the Potter family tree and a timeline of events from the Wizarding World prior to the beginning of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Helen Winter - Watch Me Play! A Self-guided Music Course for Children artwork Watch Me Play! A Self-guided Music Course for Children
Easy-to-Play Sheet Music with Colors and Letters for Beginners
Helen Winter
Genre: Music
Price: $9.99
Publish Date: October 27, 2023
Publisher: Helen Winter
Seller: StreetLib Srl

This e-book is for kids or adults who are absolute beginners in music. I tried to write it as simply as possible. That is why I use an “easy-to-play” visual aid so any beginner can play music quickly. Neither kids nor their parents have to read sheet music or have a musical background. No previous knowledge is necessary. None at all. Every song has a large and simple, color and letter-coded visual, along with traditional sheet music. The instruction is designed so that children begin with simple circles and gradually advance to reading notes using sheet music. I try to make this transition as easy as a game, where children advance to higher levels themselves. There is a total of 22 songs and 3 options to help children to begin to play right away. PLAYING BY COLOR CIRCLE PLAY BY LETTER PLAY WITH THE MUSICAL STAFF The player can first follow the circles and then repeat with the classic note symbols and staff. The helpful letters are always above the notes. There are 3 parts to this e-book. They are equal to 3 levels. Level 1 Songs that are played in one octave. All songs here appear twice: once written with circles and the next time with classic music notes. This will help kids remember the staff notes. For example: Mary Had a Little Lamb - Ver 1 - Circles Mary Had a Little Lamb - Ver 1 - Notes Level 2 In this part, you will find one version with both circles and notes and a more advanced version of the song with notes and musical notation. For example: Hot Cross Buns - Ver 1 - CIRCLES Hot Cross Buns - Ver 1 - NOTES Hot Cross Buns - Ver 2 - NOTES (Here the player will play songs in a different key and learn to transpose.) Generally, the version of the song written with sheet music is a little bit more complex than a letter-coded version. Such versions already have music notations such as rests or beams, etc. You can find an illustrated explanation of the notation at the end of this e-book. Level 3 Here, the first two songs are versions of the same melody (different combinations of notes) written with circles and notes. This is important so that the beginner can see how the same melody can be played in different keys. First of all, this e-book is addressed to newcomers to any keyboard instrument (such as Piano or Synthesizer). I offer 22 one-hand piano songs. Also, it is a perfect self-training guide for children and beginner adults to mastering the challenges of percussion instruments such as kalimba, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, or even color bell set. Table of contents Level 1 Mary Had a Little Lamb Ode to Joy The Wheels on the Bus Jolly Old Saint Nicholas Ten Little Fingers London Bridge Do You Know the Muffin Man? we Wish You a Merry Christmas The First Noel Brahms Lullaby Row Row Your Boat Itsy Bitsy Spider Silent Night Oh Susannah Level 2 Hot Cross Buns Are You Sleeping? Old McDonald Level 3 Jingle Bells La Cucaracha Yankee Doodle Happy Birthday Amazing Grace Music Note Values Musical Puzzles

On the Edge, The Instant New York Times Bestseller “Engaging and entertaining… a glimpse of the economy of the future.” —Tim Wu, New York Times Book Review From the New York Times bestselling author of The Signal and the Noise, the definitive guide to our era of risk—and the players raising the stakes In the bestselling The Signal and the Noise, Nate Silver showed how forecasting would define the age of Big Data. Now, in this timely and riveting new book, Silver investigates “the River,” the community of like-minded people whose mastery of risk allows them to shape—and dominate—so much of modern life. These professional risk-takers—poker players and hedge fund managers, crypto true believers and blue-chip art collectors—can teach us much about navigating the uncertainty of the twenty-first century. By immersing himself in the worlds of Doyle Brunson, Peter Thiel, Sam Bankman-Fried, Sam Altman, and many others, Silver offers insight into a range of issues that affect us all, from the frontiers of finance to the future of AI. Most of us don’t have traits commonly found in the River: high tolerance for risk, appreciation of uncertainty, affinity for numbers—paired with an instinctive distrust of conventional wisdom and a competitive drive so intense it can border on irrational. For those in the River, complexity is baked in, and the work is how to navigate it. People in the River have increasing amounts of wealth and power in our society, and understanding their mindset—and the flaws in their thinking— is key to understanding what drives technology and the global economy today. Taking us behind the scenes from casinos to venture capital firms, and from the FTX inner sanctum to meetings of the effective altruism movement, On the Edge is a deeply reported, all-access journey into a hidden world of power brokers and risk-takers.

There are few creative acts more mysterious and magical than writing a song. But what if the goal wasn't so mysterious and was actually achievable for anyone who wants to experience more magic and creativity in their life? That's something that anyone will be inspired to do after reading Jeff Tweedy's  How to Write One Song .    Why one song? Because the difference between one song and many songs isn't a cute semantic trick—it's an important distinction that can simplify a notoriously confusing art form. The idea of becoming a capital-S songwriter can seem daunting, but approached as a focused, self-contained event, the mystery and fear subsides, and songwriting becomes an exciting pursuit.   And then there is the energizing, nourishing creativity that can open up. How to Write One Song  brings readers into the intimate process of writing one song—lyrics, music, and putting it all together—and accesses the deep sense of wonder that remains at the heart of this curious, yet incredibly fulfilling, artistic act. But it’s equally about the importance of making creativity part of your life every day, and of experiencing the hope, inspiration, and joy available to anyone who’s willing to get started.

How do we see the world around us? The Penguin on Design series includes the works of creative thinkers whose writings on art, design and the media have changed our vision forever. "Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognizes before it can speak." "But there is also another sense in which seeing comes before words. It is seeing which establishes our place in the surrounding world; we explain that world with words, but word can never undo the fact that we are surrounded by it. The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled." John Berger's Ways of Seeing is one of the most stimulating and influential books on art in any language. First published in 1972, it was based on the BBC television series about which the (London) Sunday Times critic commented: "This is an eye-opener in more ways than one: by concentrating on how we look at paintings . . . he will almost certainly change the way you look at pictures." By now he has.

"The Great Guskin" (John Lahr, The New Yorker ) shares the approach he uses to help actors land roles, develop them, and keep them alive Harold Guskin is an "acting doctor" whose clients include Kevin Kline, Glenn Close, James Gandolfini, Bridget Fonda, and dozens more. In How to Stop Acting , Guskin reveals the insights and techniques that have worked wonders for beginners as well as stars. Instead of yet another "method," Guskin offers a strategy based on a radically simple and refreshing idea: that the actor's work is not to "create a character" but rather to be continually, personally responsive to the text, wherever his impulse takes him, from first read-through to final performance. From this credo derives an entirely new perspective on auditioning and the challenge of developing a role and keeping it fresh, even over hundreds of performances. Drawing on examples from his clients' work and his own, Guskin presents acting as a constantly evolving exploration rather than as a progression toward a fixed goal. He also offers sound and original advice on adapting to the particular demands of television and film, playing difficult emotional scenes, tackling the Shakespearean and other great roles, and more. His book will find an eager and appreciative audience among novices and established actors alike.

Alan J. Yates - W.O. Mitchell's W.O. Mitchell's "Jake And The Kid" The Popular Radio Play As Art And Social Comment.
Alan J. Yates
Genre: Theatre
Price: $5.99
Publish Date: June 10, 2010
Publisher: Trafford Publishing
Seller: AuthorHouse

W.O. Mitchell's "Jake and The Kid" captivated radio audiences in the days before television and enjoyed ratings that rivalled those for the radio broadcasts of the CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada." These homespun tales about the hired hand, Jake Trumper and his sidekick, The Kid, explored very human stories about life on the often cruel Prairies of Saskatchewan in a humorous vein that made a household name for the series across the breadth of Canada. Although he wrote many novels, most notably " Who Has Seen the Wind," featured during the ceremonies at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Mitchell was as well known for these folksy plays. They enabled him to hone his writing craft in a mass medium, when few other outlets were available; to tackle social issues of the day with a light hand, and to develop many of the themes he would explore in his later novels. This study analyzes these popular radio plays, their Prairie and literary roots, the production process and their contribution and critical reception.

Do you want to apply Japanese ingenuity of design to everyday furniture and give them a special character? Do you want to do so without spending a lot of time or money? For centuries before the invention of screws and fasteners, Japanese craftsmen used complex, interlocking joints to connect pieces of wood for structures and beams, helping to create a unique Japanese aesthetic that can still be seen in the works of modern masters like Shigeru Ban. Up until recent times, however, these techniques were often the carefully guarded secrets of family carpentry guilds and unavailable for public knowledge. Let this book teach you the secrets from an era when craftsmanship mattered, prior to the industrial revolution and mass production of "things". Inside this book you'll discover: How to make your own Japanese joints in 8 stepsThe #1 Japanese wood you should use to make jointsThe top 5 tools you need to get started with most Japanese jointsThe secret behind how Japanese joinery is used to construct buildings that have stood for hundreds of years8 Tradional joints and 3 beginner friendly projects Here are the answers to some questions you might have about this book:    Q: I'm just a woodworker with a wood shop in my garage, and I don't want to splurge on expensive tools just for making Japanese joints. Can I still make the joints given inside your book? A: Absolutely, this book is designed for the weekend woodworker and enthusiast! While we still recommend a few tools that are cheap but absolutely key when making Japanese joints, we have omitted the joints that require any type of expensive tools from this guide. There also certain joints that don't require any specialized tools. So, you don't need to spend extra if you don't really want to. Q: Can Japanese joints really improve regular objects (like chairs and other furniture) that I already know how to make? A: Yes. The special characteristics of Japanese joints are diverse. Their utility can be found in making flexible yet strong houses in earthquake-prone Japan. They are also useful in building recording-studios where sound-transmission through joist-conduction must be minimized. There also certain joints that don't even need nails to make! The addition of Japanese joints in your own designs will incorporate one or more of these characteristics to your furniture. We also have short guide on adapting these joints into your own designs, so you never get lost trying to make sense of it all. Q: Are the pictures in your book color or b/w? Genre: Art History

Publish Date: November 28, 2021
Publisher: Gioffredi
Seller: Michael Gioffredi

George Bridgman's art instruction books are a compilation of his life's work as an instructor at the Art Students League of New York. His book "Bridgman's Life Drawing" provides a complete course in figure drawing. He begins by explaining his method of building the human figure as a scale model out of wire and wood that can be manipulated and drawn from to see how the bending, twisting or turning of volume gives the sensation of movement held together by rhythm. The interlocking and distributions of the masses of the body and their proportions are described as well as the effects of light as tonal values. The different stages of developing a drawing to completion, from outline and construction to shading, are arranged in their sequence. After considering the full human form, Bridgman then describes how to draw each major feature of the figure in detail such as the head and limbs, eyes and hands. George Brant Bridgman (1864-1943) was a Canadian-American painter and instructor. He studied under the painter and sculptor Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Bridgman taught artistic anatomy and figure drawing at the Art Students League of New York starting in 1898. Over his 45 years of teaching, Bridgman taught thousands of art students including Norman Rockwell, Andrew Loomis, and Robert Beverly Hale.
